#5 Dia di Lucha pa Libertat
Every year on the 1st of July we commemorate slavery and celebrate the abolition of slavery: Keti Koti. Since we believe that Keti Koti should be a national holiday, we are closed on the 1st of July. We asked Lydiënne Albertoe to design a graphic work for this particular occasion. The work is placed on the door of our Central Space and the windows of the Studio Space.
Every year on the 1st of July we commemorate slavery and celebrate the abolition of slavery: Keti Koti. Keti Koti literally translates to the breaking of chains. Because we believe that Keti Koti should be a national holiday, we are closed on the 1st of July and celebrate Keti Koti. Lydiënne Albertoe designed a graphic for this particular occasion. Albertoe’s work helps us remember the many different freedom fighters who have fought for freedom and the importance of commemorating them.
The graphics are shown on the windows of the Studio Space of Buro Stedelijk facing the Paulus Potterstraat. One week prior to Keti Koti we will apply the stickers on the windows to share Lydienne Albertoe’s personal connection and approach to Keti Koti. The door towards Buro Stedelijk’s Central Space will be closed on the 1st of July. On the door leading to Buro Stedelijk’s Central Space, the same graphic will be shown.
Elk jaar op 1 juli herdenken we de slavernij en vieren we de afschaffing van de slavernij: Keti Koti. Keti Koti betekent letterlijk het ‘Ketenen Verbroken’. Omdat we vinden dat Keti Koti een nationale vrije dag moet zijn, zijn we op 1 juli gesloten en vieren we Keti Koti. Lydiënne Albertoe ontwierp een graphic voor deze speciale gelegenheid. Albertoe’s werk helpt ons te herinneren aan de vele verschillende vrijheidsstrijders die hebben gevochten voor vrijheid en het belang om hen te herdenken.
De afbeeldingen zijn te zien op de ramen van de Studio Space van Buro Stedelijk aan de Paulus Potterstraat. Een week vóór Keti Koti tonen we het werk op de ramen om Lydienne Albertoe’s persoonlijke connectie en benadering van Keti Koti te delen. De deur naar Buro Stedelijk’s Central Space, waarop de dezelfde afbeelding te zien zijn, is op 1 juli gesloten.
