#33 Are You Still Resonating?

On an average day, we breathe approximately 23,000 times. This vital act is enabled by plants, which produce, among so many other things, oxygen. If, with each inhalation, we fuse ourselves with the world around us, with each exhalation, we can shape sound that reflects this connectivity. In experiments with the Les Moucherons chamber choir, we will explore sound and resonance to make the connection between our internal selves and the external universe vital.

This performance is an integral part of an ongoing research initiative led by Inge Meijer, focusing on the role of plants in museum spaces. This research led to the publication of The Plant Collection (2019, Roma publications). Currently, Meijer is completing the follow-up work, The MoMA Plant Collection, scheduled for release in 2024 (Roma publications). The overarching theme explores relationships in art, nature, and the interplay of humanity and the botanical world.

Op een gemiddelde dag halen we ongeveer 23.000 keer adem. Deze essentiële handeling wordt mogelijk gemaakt door planten, die onder andere zuurstof produceren. Als we ons bij elke inademing verbinden met de wereld om ons heen, kunnen we bij elke uitademing geluid maken dat deze verbondenheid weerspiegelt. In experimenten met het kamerkoor Les Moucherons zullen we klank en resonantie onderzoeken om de verbinding tussen ons innerlijk en het externe universum vitaal te maken.

Deze performance is een integraal onderdeel van een lopend onderzoeksinitiatief onder leiding van Inge Meijer, gericht op de rol van planten in museale ruimtes. Dit onderzoek leidde tot de publicatie van The Plant Collection (2019, Roma publications). Momenteel legt Meijer de laatste hand aan het vervolgwerk The MoMA Plant Collection, dat in 2024 zal verschijnen (Roma publications). Het overkoepelende thema onderzoekt relaties in kunst, de natuur en de wisselwerking tussen de mensheid en de botanische wereld.
