#32 Film screening by Kevin Osepa

Visual artist and filmmaker Kevin Osepa explores themes of young Afro-Caribbean identity in Watamula. Watamula is a place where Curacao breathes. It is also the destination of René, who emerges from a river and staggeringly continues his journey across the island. He comes across sharp thorns and sweet petals, meets with rejection and comfort, clutching the amulet he was given at birth.

Kevin Osepa sculpts a magical-realistic panorama, intertwining landscape and destiny, spirituality, sexuality and machismo.

In LA ÚLTIMA ASCENSIÓN, fisherman Rowin hardly catches enough fish to make ends meet. But when he meets a mysterious man at his regular fishing spot, his life seems to take a turn. Intertwining his present, personal loss and the history of the island.

Beeldend kunstenaar en filmmaker Kevin Osepa verkent thema’s over de jonge Afro-Caribische identiteit in Watamula. Watamula is een plek waar Curaçao ademt. Het is ook de bestemming van René, die opduikt uit een rivier en wankelend zijn reis over het eiland voortzet. Hij kruist scherpe doornen en zoete bloemblaadjes, ontmoet afwijzing en troost, terwijl hij het amulet vasthoudt dat hij bij zijn geboorte heeft gekregen. Kevin Osepa schept een magisch-realistisch panorama waarin landschap en lot, spiritualiteit, seksualiteit en machismo met elkaar verweven zijn.

In LA ÚLTIMA ASCENSIÓN vangt visser Rowin nauwelijks genoeg vis om rond te komen. Maar wanneer hij op zijn vaste visplek een mysterieuze man ontmoet, lijkt zijn leven een wending te nemen. Zijn heden, persoonlijke verlies en de geschiedenis van het eiland worden met elkaar verweven.
