Muck Studies Department Presents: Transmission from No Point of Return Bleep Blop Bloop (2021)

by Geo Wyex

EN

6 channel audio, speakers, handheld radios, FM transmitters, media player, wires, holes, walls, fan, gold ribbon, green light, green glitter, zip ties, ‘Positive Women’ scarf stuffed in speaker, shea butter, potting soil, used sunglasses, office chair from museum storage

In his ongoing radio play, Geo Wyex places his character Muck Studies Dept, a municipal agent who “studies” mud at the bottom of waterways by gently wading through it, at an undisclosed location somewhere at an imagined Bottom of Everything – perhaps at the beginning of a perceivable universe.  Piping in through holes in the walls, various sounds create a roaming constellation of references – metallic rattling, feedback, shards of a musical score – that point to a history of implosion, obliteration, and scatter, a blackness that precedes, as “matter beyond the equation of value.” (Denise Ferreira da Silva)

Over an FM transmission, the character speaks of stars, gas, ass, water, holes, and running as a means of destabilizing the present ground.

NL

6-kanaals audio, luidsprekers, portofoons, FM-zenders, mediaspeler, draden, gaten, muren, ventilator, gouden lint, groen licht, groene glitter, kabelbinders, ‘Positive Women’ sjaal in luidspreker gepropt, sheaboter, potgrond, gebruikte zonnebril, bureaustoel uit museumopslag

Every year on the 1st of July we commemorate slavery and celebrate the abolition of slavery: Keti Koti. Since we believe that Keti Koti should be a national holiday, we are closed on the 1st of July. We asked Lydiënne Albertoe to design a graphic work for this particular occasion. The work is placed on the door of our Central Space and the windows of the Studio Space.
