#16 Descent into Fungal

In the midst of a decaying world, we are in need of other futures. Can we descend into the fungal to imagine an alternative network through non-human and human agency? This manifestation offers a platform to exchange speculative futures by taking time to listen and imagine different realities together.

Now, there is an even stronger need to reflect on forms of collectivity. Can we take the time to sit with the fungal, listen, imagine and nurture it together in a museum space where life tends to die instead of grow?

Every Thursday evening during this manifestation, artists, thinkers, designers, poets, makers and breakers will present and perform in the Central Space for the public and for the special mycelium installation, developed by Dutch design brand YUME YUME. We collectively take care of the fungal floor. The mycelium will respond to us being in the space together and will therefore carry a fragment of all of us whilst we internalize or embrace some of their networks. In addressing the human audience as well as the fungal, we are envisioning a world order on non-human grounds. Who is the host and who is the parasite?

Temidden van een wereld in verval hebben we behoefte aan andere toekomsten. Kunnen we afdalen in het myceliumnetwerk en ons een alternatief netwerk inbeelden door middel van niet-menselijke en menselijke middelen? Deze manifestatie biedt een platform om speculatieve toekomsten uit te wisselen door de tijd te nemen om te luisteren en ons samen verschillende werkelijkheden in te beelden.

Nu is er een nog sterkere behoefte om na te denken over vormen van collectiviteit. Kunnen we de tijd nemen om samen met het myceliumnetwerk te zitten, te luisteren, te verbeelden en te koesteren in een museale ruimte waar het leven de neiging heeft te sterven in plaats van te groeien?

Elke donderdagavond tijdens deze manifestatie presenteren en performen kunstenaars, denkers, ontwerpers, dichters, makers en brekers in de Central Space voor het publiek en voor de speciale myceliuminstallatie, ontwikkeld door het Nederlandse design merk YUME YUME. We zorgen samen voor de myceliumvloer. Het mycelium zal reageren op ons samenzijn in de ruimte en zal daarom een stukje van ons allemaal meedragen terwijl we sommige van hun netwerken internaliseren of omarmen. Door zowel het menselijke publiek als het myceliumnetwerk aan te spreken, stellen we ons een wereldorde op niet-menselijke gronden voor. Wie is de host en wie is de parasiet?
