Ranie Ribeiro
Regarded by his peers as a down-to-earth and humble artist, producer Ranie Ribeiro formerly known as D-Ribeiro, is ready to complete his transformation. With multiple releases on notable labels (Midlight Records and 4 Lux Recordings among others) under his belt, the Rotterdam-based Ribeiro has been able to flow effortlessly through genres varying from soulful techno to jazz. Whereas his past releases could be signaled as up tempo, warm and joyful beats, Ribeiro’s most recent single releases (Individuality, Kanda & Lights Out) have more of an introspective and fuller feel to it. Along with the addition of his harp-playing and distinct percussion elements, Ribeiro is pushing the boundaries of his newfound and matured identity, which can be heard in remixes for Dutch pop artists Meetsysteem (Nous Klaer, 2019) and Nana Adjoa (Bloomer Records, 2021). Most recently, Ribeiro also appeared on releases from Super Sonic Jazz and Dekmantel’s Best of 2020.
Under his previous moniker D-Ribeiro, the elusive producer with Capeverdean roots released the EP’s Purple Ghost Dance (2014) and What’s Up Girl? (2015) and single Down You Will Get (2013), which were received positively by critics and audiences alike. When reflecting on why he started producing in the first place, his background as a stellar and well known DJ comes to mind. “Back when I started deejaying, there was this assumption that you’d need to produce tracks as well, so that’s why I decided to produce on my own”, Ribeiro states. This resulted in his first EP release The Circus (2013) which ultimately came out on SD Records. Appearances at festivals such as Solar Weekend, Indian Summer Festival, and DGTL among others definitely helped build his profile as a versatile and playful DJ.
Ranie Ribeiro is fully focused on his musical career as a producer, composer and harpist. Up next for him will be a full length album as well as scoring movie projects.
