Paul du Bois-Reymond
Paul du Bois-Reymond (Berlin, 1974) is a graphic designer and visual artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. He co-founded the design collectives DEPT (1996–2000) and Machine (2000–2025), both known for their experimental, expressive visual approaches that helped shape a generation of independent graphic design. He was a teacher at the graphic design department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy from 2000 to 2014. In 2021, he joined the creative team of Sexyland, where he contributes to both the visual language and the conceptual development of the collective’s cultural programming.
Parallel to his design career, du Bois-Reymond has steadily expanded his practice into painting and printmaking. Through this evolution from graphic design to the visual arts and back, he continues to blur the boundaries between applied and fine art, forging a distinct aesthetic that reflects on materiality, consumer culture, and the poetic potential of ordinary visual forms.
