
Iván Martínez
Iván Martínez is a graphic designer based in Mexico City, specializing in the editing, design, and production of artist books and culture-related publications. He studied Graphic Design at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Xochimilco campus (Mexico City, 2001–2005).
In 2013, he was awarded the FONCA/CONACYT Grant for Studies Abroad, and got his Master’s degree at ArtEZ / Werkplaats Typografie (Arnhem, the Netherlands, 2013–2015). He later completed a residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie (Maastricht, the Netherlands, 2016–2017).
Martínez has worked on publications and identity projects with various contemporary artists and cultural institutions. His work includes commissions for the Center for Book Arts (New York, USA), the University of San Diego (California, USA), Het Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam, Netherlands), De Vleeshal (Middelburg, Netherlands), Portikus (Frankfurt, Germany), Palais de Tokyo (Paris, France), Temblores Publicaciones, Museo Jumex, Museo Universitario del Chopo, Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), and the Isabel and Agustín Coppel Collection (all based in Mexico City, Mexico).
Notable projects include the design of the publication MOCA Focus: Ana Segovia at The Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Ángeles, USA, 2024), the catalogue Life in the Folds by Carlos Amorales for the Mexican Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale (Venice, Italy), and the visual identity for Fun & Fury! at Cabaret Voltaire (Zurich, Switzerland, 2017).
He currently teaches in the Illustration area of the Bachelor’s program in Graphic Communication Design at UAM Xochimilco.
