Jaer Vogelland
Jaer Vogelland (2000) is a photographer and visual artist based in Amsterdam. His work moves between documentary photography and abstract visual storytelling. Drawing from his Dutch-Surinamese background, he explores how the African diaspora manifests within European spaces and how imagery can serve as a tool for memory, connection, and self-representation.
Vogelland’s photography is defined by a soft, observant gaze. He doesn’t simply document people but captures the dynamic between them. The gestures, encounters, and energies that form the rhythm of a community. His lens seeks out moments of recognition and vulnerability, where the everyday life of the city unfolds with poetic depth.
In earlier projects such as A Collective Offering, Our Collective Future, and The Collective Thought, he explored themes of solidarity, archiving, and shared futures within the diaspora. Through film, collage, and photography, Vogelland builds a living archive in which art becomes a communal language.
