Before Distortion (2023 – ongoing)

An overview of material experiments developed from mainly plant-based raw materials and semi-finished products, such as zucchini, squash, eggplant, cotton, steel cable and cardboard. These samples represent the first experiments from a research project that focuses on plant-based raw materials that can be further developed for artistic purposes. Through trial and error, the specific material properties are revealed. Properties that subsequently serve as guidelines for material deformation and the creation of new qualities.

These experiments serve as a starting point for various projects around ecology. The purpose is to shift from our egocentric mindset to an ecocentric belief in which not the human, but the entire ecosystem is normative.

Een overzicht van materiaalexperimenten die zijn ontwikkeld uit voornamelijk plantaardige grondstoffen en -halffabricaten, zoals courgette, pompoen, aubergine, katoen, staaldraad en karton. Deze stalen vormen de eerste experimenten uit een onderzoek dat zich richt op de plantaardige grondstoffen die doorontwikkeld kunnen worden voor artistieke doeleinden. Doormiddel van trial and error worden de specifieke materiaaleigenschappen aan het licht gebracht. Eigenschappen die vervolgens als leidraad dienen voor materiaalvervorming en het creëren van nieuwe hoedanigheden.

Deze experimenten dienen als startpunt voor diverse projecten op het gebied van ecologie. Het doel is om ons denkbeeld te verschuiven van een egocentrische naar een ecocentrische overtuiging, waarin niet de mens, maar het gehele ecosysteem bepalend is.
