#40 NEO NEO DADA – Act I, II and III

During this manifestation Lorraine Hellwig, an artist who came to Buro Stedelijk through Institute Francaise, will immerse us in her practice for Manifestation #40: NEO NEO DADA. Experience Lorraine Hellwig’s process in three acts of each 15 minutes.

Lorraine Hellwig regularly portrays fellow members of Generation Y and Z (born between 1985 and 2005) and uses the images to create a manifesto with real advertising slogans, motivational slogans and own thoughts. Characterised by the global economic crisis, digital culture, the pandemic, political unrest and climate change, this is the generation that is breaking away from previous ideas and orders and is under particular observation.

During the opening hours of the Stedelijk Museum, you, the volunteer visitor, can participate in this process-oriented happening. Tonight, you will see the first results of these gatherings. Inspired by the DADA notion that art can be found everywhere, and especially within everyone, Lorraine Hellwig seeks to discover that special connection and relatable manifesto in each visitor who enters the room. Using the NEO NEO DADA questionnaire, along with a mix of interviews and conversations, she looks for the subtleties in the dialogue between “you and me.”

Similar to scrolling on social media, this project has no end and updates itself through new venues and photographic-artistic interpretation of new events, encounters and insights, while remaining a work in progress. Through constant enlargement, the manifesto also develops and changes, just like the society in which it takes shape.
