Stephanie Schuitemaker
The practice of Stephanie Schuitemaker involves the transformational power of art and how to create the conditions for it to emerge. Building upon her background in macro economics she is interested in how elements are related to one another. Her master at Sandberg Institute formed the beginning of her research into the affect of an artwork, evolving into the dynamics of connection and the essence of hosting. A journey she has further deepened with Berber Meindertsma. In the last two years she has guided a variety of clients in attaining insight into their connection with art and encouraging them to follow their intuition. With studio ZELT, together with Johannes Offerhaus, she gives form to her practice by creating spaces with textiles. From 2018 until now she has led the dutch chapter of the foundation Outset. Under her lead OutsetNL focussed on supporting art projects that are ‘at the outset’, define the zeitgeist and is significant for all parties involved from the artist, to the curator and the institution. Among the supported projects were: Nicolas Jaar in het HEM; RADIUS; Marianna Simnett in Frans Hals Museum; and Alexis Blake. She is also the chairwoman for the foundation AF Ensemble formed by Ard Huizing and Frances de Rijck van der Gracht. The purpose is to annually award a moment of schoonheid (beauty that resonates) and propel it through creating a new art project together with the winning artist(s).
