Narges Mohammadi
Narges Mohammadis artistic practice stems from a position of in-betweenness – a space embedded within separated cultural histories, between materiality and physicality. By embodying long-lost memories her works translate into immersive installations and sculptures. Characterized by a play of fragrances, colours, symbols, and traditions of differing cultural heritages. Through the use of simple and widely accessible materials in shapes and forms that have seemingly outgrown their origins, she creates sensorial experiences that enact a feeling of domesticity and home.
Mohammadis works centers around memories and emotions and tell stories of belonging, togetherness, loss and mourning. Weaving together the deeply personal with the universal through tactility and materiality and creating immersive experiences. In their monumentality, they offer space to contemplate and pause. Putting halt to the rapidness of the every day, she attempts to honor the untold stories, lost histories and forgotten memories of diasporic identities like her own.
