Marcel van den Berg
Trained at the Willem de Koning Academy, and a former resident of the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Marcel van den Berg nonetheless turns his attention away from academic fine arts and towards the aesthetics of graffiti and street culture combined with Black music mostly from the United States, Africa and the Caribbean. In this lineage he uses musical energy combined with lyrics from different genres: funk, jazz, techno, reggae, amongst many others. Their messages about injustice, societal issues and racism also address status, history and pride. This feeds his work which depicts a rhythm or intensity rather than an image per se.
