Berber Meindertsma
Berber Meindertsma is development manager at Het HEM, a home for contemporary culture in Zaandam. She joined Het HEM in its first development phase and quickly broadened her role to include the curation and organisation of collaborative projects with local communities and art spaces. She is now the co-project lead of developing Het HEM’s new digital platform to be launched in spring 2023. Prior to Het HEM, she worked at the Serpentine Galleries and Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art in London. Next to her full time job, Berber regularly works with others to continue her own research in the role of arts in society and collaborative and interdisciplinary practices. In 2019, she initiated a group residency on sound at Guest Projects in London. Since 2020, she started researching and writing about resonance and practices of hosting in the art world – a journey she started with Stephanie Schuitemaker. Most recently, the essay “Guest plus Host= Ghost – een reflectie op hosten in de kunstwereld” was published on Mister Motley. Together with Ko van ‘t Hek she wrote “Een goed museum laat je natrillen” for the NRC Handelsblad. She is the secretary of AF Ensemble, a new foundation created by Ard Huizing and Frances de Rijck van der Gracht with the purpose to annually award a moment of schoonheid (beauty) and propel it through creating a new art project together with the winning artist(s).
