Frank Creton
Frank L. Creton (born 20 December 1941) is an artist. He grew up in the Coronie district, a rural area with distinctive tall coconut palms. His painted memories of the area from his childhood seem timeless. All kinds of images remained on his retina when he had crossed the ocean to the Netherlands after his years in Paramaribo. He settled permanently in Amsterdam. His abiding love became working in oils – an overwhelming experience.
“You paint with everything – with your nose, with your ears, with your enthusiasm, there was paint everywhere,” he says.
He decided to capture authentic scenes of Suriname on canvas to preserve them for future generations. New ideas continue to inspire him. People in the streets fascinate him. The urge to create continues to grip him. To him, a day without painting is a day not lived. Painting is his life.
