EGO FVLCIO COLLVMNAS EIVS (I Fortify Your Columns), (2020 – 2025)

In 2019, as fires ravaged the Amazon, the guajojó bird fled its ancestral habitat, seeking refuge in the world’s highest city: La Paz. In EGO FVLCIO COLLVMNAS EIVS, visitors are invited to see through the bird’s eyes. While listening to its pulse, we confront a dark cosmos where celestial bodies are consumed by flames.
Drawing from The First New Chronicle and Good Government (1615) by Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala—the first known Indigenous author to chronicle colonial violence in a letter to the Spanish king—the installation reimagines heaven not as distant or inert, but as an intimate, animate presence that presses close.

In 2019, terwijl het Amazonegebied in rook opging, vluchtte de guajojó-vogel uit zijn voorouderlijk leefgebied en zocht toevlucht in de hoogstgelegen stad ter wereld: La Paz. In EGO FVLCIO COLLVMNAS EIVS worden bezoekers uitgenodigd om door de ogen van deze vogel te kijken. Terwijl we luisteren naar zijn hartslag, worden we geconfronteerd met een donkere kosmos waarin hemellichamen door vlammen worden verzwolgen.
De installatie put inspiratie uit The First New Chronicle and Good Government (1615) van Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala—de eerste bekende inheemse auteur die de koloniale wreedheden beschreef in een brief aan de Spaanse koning—en herschept de hemel niet als iets veraf en levenloos, maar als nabij, bezield en indringend aanwezig.
