Maria Pask’s work explores ideas of community, collective creativity and shared authorship. Through performances, films, workshops and socially engaged projects, she creates collaborative situations in which people come together around shared interests and beliefs.
Central to her practice is an interest in inclusion, reciprocity and the social possibilities of creative exchange. Her work examines how collective making can create spaces for encounter and empowerment, while challenging hierarchies between professional and amateur forms of making. Her recent work focuses on models of mutual support and everyday care, including the development of ST HELENA’S, an Amsterdam based initiative assisting older adults through the sale of paintings, textiles and handmade objects.
