After a formative first three-year cycle, Buro Stedelijk is moving into its next phase. The autonomous platform within the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam continues to make space for artistic experimentation, with a growing focus on the exchanges, collaborations, and creative energy already moving through Amsterdam’s artistic communities.
Under the curatorship of Jo-Lene Ong, this next chapter focuses on connecting communities, bridging generations, and bringing the freshest ideas emerging across Amsterdam into the museum. Together with project manager Anouk van Amsterdam, Buro aims to grow as an interface between the city and the museum.
The first expression of this new phase is Buro Relays (16 May – 13 June): a month-long series of handovers between communities, generations, and artistic contexts across and around Amsterdam. At the same time, Relays marks a moment of transition, acknowledging the foundational work of curators Azu Nwagbogu and Rita Ouédraogo, alongside the many communities that helped shape Buro’s first phase.
16 & 17 May
A two-day gathering connecting Amsterdam-based and international practitioners across generations. Local and international artists, curators and supporters of the arts are paired to explore current topics in contemporary art.
21 May - 8 June
Buro transforms into a café-style poster wall for artists who do more than one thing. Part noticeboard, part product sample showcase, Side Hustle Fair shows the inventive ways artists extend, sustain, and remix their practices. Bringing the city's diverse talent and everyday resourcefulness directly into the museum - from fashion to food and specialized services - visitors can take a contact tab and connect directly with artists.
11 & 13 June
The program culminates in four live events selected via a city-wide open call. By handing over the "keys" to the program, Buro invites artists to define their own formats and communities within the museum walls.
