Charl Landvreugd

Advisory Board

Charl Landvreugd is an artist, researcher and curator exploring cultural hybridity and belonging in continental Europe. Shaped by Rotterdam’s multilingual and culturally diverse environment, his practice brings artistic experimentation into dialogue with academic research and writing, examining how communities develop their own forms of expression and ways of being. Working across sculpture, photography, video and performance, he develops concepts rooted in the specific histories and cultural experiences of Afro-European life.

He is Head of Research and Curatorial Practice at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and a member of Buro Stedelijk’s Advisory Board. His curatorial projects include exhibitions of Remy Jungerman, Felix de Rooy and Erwin Olaf. His book Dutch Afro Becomings: Hybrid Being in Black Art and Culture (punctum books, 2026) examines the position of Black artists within the Dutch art world and proposes a vocabulary for understanding Dutch Afro artistic individuality, cultural multiplicity and belonging on their own terms.
