Ayomide Tejuoso

Ayomide Tejuoso (Plantation) is a Nigerian British artist based across London and Lagos, Nigeria. Working across text, photography, installation, and film, her work is a Black feminist manifesto, devoted to the West African disposition. Her artistic practice is an inundated journey to self: to her reflections as a Yoruba woman in Europe, and her dislocations as she engages with histories of Black dispossession and resilience. To her, Black art is praxis, a political assertion, and a redemptive vision. Within this framework, her visual projects consist of stills of golden crucifixes on darkened lips, Black boys in football jerseys on broken motorbikes, braided shukus and dashing horses, all image transferred on wooden installations. Her photographs and installations have been exhibited in prestigious institutions across Europe and West Africa, including La Rada Gallery, Krakow Photomonth Festival, Motormond Gallery, Gallery 1957, Gallery 198, Photo Vogue Festival, Foam Amsterdam, OSCAM Museum, and Rele Gallery.

Commercially, she works as a writer, film director, photographer, and visual director. She has contributed essays and editorials to PDF Magazine, The Fader, Essence Magazine, TWIST Magazine, New Currency Magazine, Nataal Media, PhotoVogue, Mulieris Magazine, British Journal of Photography, and Foam Amsterdam. She collaborates with musicians to create visual rollouts. From release covers and press images to music videos, she works closely with them as a visual director and image-maker to shape and build their visual identities. She has worked with Celeste, Annahstasia Enuke, Amy Gadiaga, Wu-Lu, Poison Anna, Parijita, and Divine Earth. Through this, she is developing 00IDEATION, a creative studio and research laboratory that builds iconoclastic visual mythologies through ideation and conceptual art methodologies.
